This Privacy Policy sets out the types of information we collect about you and the people in your household who use Freeview (“you”), the ways we collect it and what we do with it. If a word or phrase is capitalised in this Privacy Policy but not defined in this Privacy Policy, it will have the same meaning as in the Freeview Terms of Use. Freeview is committed to ensuring the privacy of your personal information, and complying with this Privacy Policy and the Privacy Act 2020.

By accessing Freeview Services, browsing our website, downloading and using our apps, registering to our services, or otherwise providing personal information to us, you consent to the collection, use, disclosure, storage and processing of personal information in accordance with this Privacy Policy.

What Information Do We Collect?

When you use Freeview Services (which includes using our website, registering to use our services, or downloading and using our apps), we (and our service providers on our behalf, which include Third Parties) may collect information about you, and information about how you are using Freeview Services, Third Party Services and any other services we may provide.

The information we collect includes technical and general information, as well as personal information such as:

  • Contact details such as Your name, email and contact details you provide when registering for Freeview Services, or fill in a contact form;

  • Details of when, how, and from where you visit and use Freeview Services, what services you used, what you look at, what Third Party Services and content you accessed and consumed, what apps you downloaded, and how you got there (for example, if you clicked through an email we have sent you or via an online advertisement).
  • Details of how Freeview is used, including TV channel viewing and use of the Freeview electronic programme guide.
  • Device ID, Device type, hardware and software information like your IP address, operating system and browser type that you use to access Freeview Services.
  • Information about the quality of service you are receiving.

Where possible, our preference is to collect your personal information from you directly. This will generally be done through your use of our Freeview Services as described above, through direct contact with us, entering competitions, or through the use of “cookies” and other tracking technology.

For example, to make recommendations or display content or Third Party Services we think you will liked, to let you save your favourite settings and shows, and to help you access and watch Third Party Services, and so they can make recommendations or display their content they think you may like.
  2. To communicate with you and support your use of Freeview: We use your details to let you know about changes and updates to Freeview Services, Third Party Services, and our other services, to provide technical support, or to reply to any questions you have.
  3. To make Freeview better: We use your information to look at site traffic, analyse trends and it generally helps us build a bigger picture of how Freeview is working and being used. These insights are important because they help us to make Freeview Services better for you, our shareholders and their advertisers and other Third Parties.

To provide other services to you: Now and then we might need to use your information to run a competition or poll you've entered or for another specific service (for example, games on our website). In those cases there might be some additional terms around how we need to use your information which we will make clear at the time of entry.

We may hold and use personal information about you and your household and contact you for a reasonable period after you have stopped using Freeview Services or de-registered from Freeview Services. We will otherwise only hold your personal information for so long as it may be required by us and for as long as we legally entitled to.

How Do Third Party Sites Use My Information?

Freeview Services contain links to and from Third Party Services and other sites and services that are not controlled by us. If you follow a link to any of these sites or services, we recommend that you review their privacy policies. Freeview does not accept any responsibility or liability for the privacy policies of any Third Parties, or for any transactions that you enter into with them, and their use of any personal information which you provide to them (whether through any such link or otherwise).

Where is your information stored?

Your information is stored securely by third party agencies under contract to Freeview. We will take all reasonable steps to ensure that such agencies comply with the requirements of the Privacy Act 2020.

We may also keep your personal information, including how you've used Freeview Services, on an anonymous basis. If you register for Freeview you may be assigned a 'unique identifier' that we may use to store and organise your personal information. It allows us to better keep your personal information safe while collecting information about how you use Freeview Services.

We are committed to protecting the information we receive from you. Although we have appropriate safeguards in place and we do everything that is reasonably within our power to prevent unauthorised use or unauthorised disclosure of the information, due to the inherent nature of the internet, we cannot ensure or warrant the security of any personal information you provide to us. You do so at your own risk we will not be liable for any unauthorised use or disclosure of your personal information in that respect.
