Questions and answers: Getting Freeview
How do I get Freeview? Do I need a new television set?
No! You do not have to replace your current television.
All you need is a digital receiver and a satellite dish OR UHF aerial - there are no monthly fees and no contracts.
A different digital receiver is required for the Freeview satellite® or Freeview|HD®. The receiver converts the digital signal so that you can see and hear all of Freeview’s channels through your existing television. Eventually all new TVs will have a digital receiver built-in.
Satellite dish:
A satellite dish is required to receive the Freeview satellite® service and to send this signal to your digital satellite receiver for decoding.
UHF aerial:
A UHF aerial is required to receive Freeview|HD® and to send this signal to your digital terrestrial receiver for decoding.
If you need a new dish or UHF aerial, a Freeview accredited retailer can help you to determine your requirements and can recommend an installer in your area.
What if I live in an apartment?
Multi-unit dwellings (MDU’s) may have a TV reception system that feeds your apartment - ask your body corporate, building manager or landlord. Some MDU’s have satellite head-ends which enable you to connect a digital satellite receiver into your TV aerial socket. If not, we suggest you ask your body corporate, building manager or landlord to contact an installer who can advise on the equipment and installation options. They will also be able to help with advice to ensure that you can receiver the Freeview|HD® service (assuming your apartment is in one of the coverage areas).
How do I subscribe?
You do not need to subscribe to Freeview. All you need is a digital receiver and a satellite dish OR UHF aerial - there are no monthly fees and no contracts.
